We do not impose a "One Size Fits All" process on our clients. You are in charge. If you like, we can do everything from start to finish. We love to get all of the work. But if you'd rather - we can provide designs only. Some of our clients install their gardens themselves, or ask us to work with a trusted gardener. We can coordinate with your architect, builder, landscape architect or interior designer. We never forget that it is your garden, and you are the boss. People always ask us why our gardens are all so different. They are different because our clients and their homes and dreams are all so different. This wouldn't be exciting or interesting for them or for us, if every project was the same. After all, we're not talking about adorning a chain of gas stations. We want you to revel in your own, exterior footprint. The more we can learn about you, the more we can personalize your gardens. Some clients want to start with a blank slate and garden up an entire property at once – which is really fun and dramatic. We can also work in stages – one area at a time. You might need a complete overhaul, or just a little lift. One of our clients followed the same path to the barn every day, and wanted to amplify that experience. She made that walk twice a day, every day. Life is just better with fragrances and flowers.
Tell us why you love the place. The more we learn about how it serves your members and your guests, the better. We will invest time to understand the wishes of your board members, staff, and volunteers. For this reason, public gardens take many more hours to design than our residential gardens – yet we bill the same flat fee. One of the ways Proper Gardens gives back to the community is to donate these extra, added hours. Properly designed, these gardens will outlive us. The opportunity to impact more people and future generations through a public garden is a privilege.
We know you are busy with the heavy lifting - crafting complicated construction documents and managing plans for zoning, irrigation, and hardscapes. Let us help you with our artful plant combinations and designs. We are always testing new varieties of bulbs, perennials, shrubs, and trees that can further adorn your overall vision for a space. We hope you learn to rely on us as a responsive and cost-effective long-term partner.
Work with us to construct vignettes centered on key windows and doorways to enhance your interior work. You may also like us to design cutting gardens or perennial beds to coordinate with key color ways in fabrics and wall coverings throughout a home. Let us amplify your interiors to achieve an entire property in harmony.
